Scores injured as chaos mars meeting in Macalder copper mines
Several people were injured after chaos erupted at a meeting in Macalder copper mines where officials who accompanied Governor Ochilo Ayacko had their vehicles pelted with stones. Governor Ayacko was scheduled to attend the meeting with officials of artisanal miners. During the fracas, one of the vehicles was set on fire as residents lit bonfires on the road to protest the assault on Macalder Kanyarwanda MCA Felix Okwanyo by unknown assailants.

Ghanaian s call on government to shut down all illegal gold mines
Hundreds of Ghanaians have called on their government to clamp down on illegal mining in Africa’s top gold producer in a second day of protests. Placard-wielding demonstrators had called on Thursday for the release of fellow protesters who were arrested in an earlier march. On Friday, their demands focused on the need to crack down on illegal mining that’s blamed for polluting rivers and soils in the West African nation. A last day of protests is planned Saturday. We propose at minimum one global meeting of National community mining organizations annually. Given financial limitations, we need to priorities areas of most immediate and substantial impact. The initial years should focus on establishing the digital platform, developing training materials, setting up online community and safety initiatives. As the platform grows and secures more resources, we can gradually implement other initiatives. The ultimate aim remains the e same: to improve the overall safety, profitability, and sustainability of the global mining community.

By involving various stakeholders, including miners, their families, local leaders, NGOs, and government agencies, we aim to foster a culture of safety and environmental stewardship that contributes to the long-term reduction of mercury use and its associated risks.
Benchmarking Report: ASM Practices in Indonesia - A Collaboration with Kenyas ASM
The ASM sector in Indonesia is quite robust, comprising an estimated total of 4 million miners, 1.2 million of whom are gold miners. They are spread across 35 provinces and more than 300 districts, operating in over 2,000 mining locations. Each miner earns at least 0.5 grams of gold per day, and with approximately 200 working days in a year, the gold miners produce a significant 120 tons of gold annually.
